You can get broadband in the UK via a satellite dish, check

http://fast.co.uk/satellite.php

for one example. I searched Google for "uk broadband via satellite" and there are several others, if you want to compare.
I don't use this sort of service, so I don't know how well it works. You would presumably have to be able/allowed to attach a Sky-type dish to the outside of your flat.

Maybe this is an outdated statement, however to my knowledge Satellite Broadband was only a downstream service, relying on alternate technologies such as a dial-up or DSL connection for upstream.

Don't confuse 'I only want to download' with not having to upload though. Every time you type a URL, send an email or type a reply on AB (!!) you have to send that data to the relevant site or server, thus uploading.

I think there are 'two-way' satellite connections (mainly used by business) but this could prove to be more expensive than buying a leased line from BT!!!!!

Looks like your best bet is to shell out for a telephone line.. In the long run it'll be cheaper.
