Just had work done to run fibre optic broadband cable installed yesterday.
It’s overhead cable in all of my street. Young lad did the work. Satisfied with work in house. But today I just had a look at workmanship of cable that drops from high level to low level outside my property. Instead of clipping it neatly vertical to outside wall he’s zip tied it to the rainwater down pipe. Not very City and Guilds. Should I complain.

Possibly. If it's your downpipe then probably since you didn't give permission.
You should - if they attach wiring to your pipe you should be asked for your permission first, and they should advise of a Wayleave payment - an annual rental for using your property.

More likely, they will send someone out to do the job properly.
Maybe the engineer thought he'd disguise the cable to an extent and not damage the fabric of the building by hammering clips into it.
It'll be a better fix and less likely to end up flapping in the wind when the clips, as they do, come loose.

Old G. The down pipe is on the wall of my property.
It’s not so much permission. It’s the workmanship.
What tradesmen hangs whatever on the nearest object, just because it’s vertical and easy.
Your issue is that should the pipe ever need replacing you'd be stuck doing the BT job for them in addition.
