I am struggling with 79 and 96
Has anyone a small clue to set me on my way.
79. An indirect approach is necessary for the raw cadet. (7)
96. Ring, and soldier came round for Colleen? (7)
Hi davetoby and welcome to the AnswerBank. You must realise that we both risk being shot down in flames for discussing Rainbow clues as there are still 7 weeks to go before the quiz ends! In a month's time it will be quite different with members willingly nudging each other along to the finishing line.
However, I see no harm in giving you 'a little something for the weekend' as they used to say in the barber shop. My 'clue' is perhaps a little unkind - let's try that again: 'Clue less 50' (Nothing to do with Harry Potter or Q50).
Let us know if you get the answer (but do not reveal!). Good Luck, ja
thank you, Jonalex, I agree with your sentiments, but I am trying to beat my father-in-law! Your clue will keep me going for awhile. Have you completed the 100 yet?
Thanks Davetoby - Yes I have finished the 100 and am now moving on to 'Matlock' which is equally challenging (places around the UK). If you manage to finish Rainbow then you may have time for Matlock also, just ask for details.
Here's a bit more for your 'clue': Clue less 50 ???
(A tip is also included in the answer.)
Thanks for the info.- I have an idea for 96 but cannot quite get it to fit.If i have no further success I will ask you for a nudge nearer the closing date.Dave
Dave, try to 'create' the answer from 3 components in the clue, then check to see if it exists. The chances are that you will then learn a new word, as I did, which is why you haven't yet found the answer. Sorry if this sounds a bit Irish.
Found it! Didn't know the word but I was on the right lines.
Now I must check my spellings as I always lose half a mark. I'll try the Matlock quiz now. Many thanks.Dave
