lights keeps dimming!

Our lights in the dining room and living room keep dimming on their own accord. Sometimes split seconds other times up to a minute or two. They are not connected to dimmers. Other than poltergiests, anyone any ideas as to why this is happening. I have noticed that it has only started happening since the weather turned!

It could be a power surge, or an electrical fault.

why just the two rooms though?

I live in a rural area with overhead power lines and we quite often get dimming of the lights when the power goes off somewhere further down the line. When the lights flicker that is when they are trying to save our power, (by switching to another source) they only flicker once or twice, the third time they go out and the engineers have to find the source of the problem.

I would suggest getting a voltmeter and connect it to a socket and see if the voltage drops at the same time as the lights dim - if it s does the problem I would have a guess is external to your house. If it doesn't - get a spark in.

spudqueen, we live in a semi rural area. We constantly have the power going off for a few minutes as a time, but we have never experienced this dimming. I will do what woodchopper suggests. Many thanks to you all.

If I may just step in here? ours kept doing the same it was a spotlight in a row of 4. It burnt out eventually. Could it be that the bulb is on it's way out?

Wilsarnie, we have checked the bulbs, which are the normal bayonet type. Our spots, in another room) does what yours does too!

Small Edison Screw type spotlamps are notorious for bad contacts between the lamp and the bulb holder which makes them flicker like hell - I changed my fitting and went for the Halogen GU10 units.
