Pet day fits.... but is that a well known term?

According to Chambers, a pet-day is a spell of sunshine in the middle of bad weather. So it doesn’t precisely fit “raining cars & dogs” means it’s persisting down.

I’ve just put it in a crossword solver and it’s come up with “pit-pat”, which fits and is often used to describe raindrops, but I can’t parse it into cats & dogs.
