The Uk Abandons The Ukca Mark
In the thread below (from early April this year), I correctly predicted that the government would abandon the UKCA mark nonsense – which is what it has done today; but not before costing industry around the world billions in wasted time & effort applying the UKCA mark to their products.
In the video, my mate Phil explains what a mad idea the UKCA mark was – but at least perhaps the UK government is beginning to appreciate what an absolute disaster Brexit is for the UK.

So all the money companies have spent preparing (or actually marking) their products with the UKCA mark has been a complete waste of time and money.
I don’t understand why the above concept seems so hard for ABers to understand.

Zacs-Mater – I too noted that the announcement on the government website omitted construction products and medical devices, I think it likely to be an error (hopefully someone will seek confirmation).
But many devices in these two categories require mandatory third party approval (by a Notified Body). And if the UKCA mark is mandatory for these devices then they will require third party approval for both CE and the UKCA mark at considerable additional cost.

Further to my post above in relation to Construction products and Medical devices not being on the government list – this is because those categories do not fall within the remit of the Department for Business and Trade who made the announcement.
But the government departments responsible for other UKCA markings are expected to make announcements similar to the Department for Business and Trade.
So good news for manufacturers of Construction products and Medical devices, which will be included in not having to be UKCA marked.
The nail in the coffin of one piece of Brexit legalistic nonsense.

ZM, I don't think it was going to be a simple swap. A whole new regime was to be introduced and everything that was certified to EU standards would have to be recertified to UK ones. (It appears things that were to be sold in NI would need both.)
There's been some question over whether the UK even has sufficient people trained to do the job. Manufacturers have been protesting for years that they had no idea what the certification process would entail, which is why they're happy the whole idea has been junked.
