Thanks crete, just need to know what my problem is, shot out of morrrisons today, palpitiations, everybody staring at me, sh1t scared, got to car & cried my eyes out - don't know why? Felt suffercated
everyone gets like that at some time are you o k now, ? if it continues there would be no harm in seeing your doctor. could you maybe talk to a friend or a relative in the meantime ?
I started getting palpatations about 4 or 5 months ago. I went to the doctors during an attack of em as I was close by, they were so strong they assumed I must actually have a heart condition.
However, when it came about they are stress related, they took me really seriously. I know its the situation I have been in that has caused mine and as my life has improved so have the panic attacks. There are all sorts of things that can help you if these episodes continue, if you feel there are no actual external causes. Counselling, anti-depressants (there is no shame in taking them if you need them).

To describe an attack, I would start getting breathless then my heart would beat quickly, then stop for 2-3 seconds then start back in again with a massive thump, then cycle like this till the attack was over.
Hi Angie, I had have also experience panic attacks.
With mine I had this feeling of dread and fear, sweating and just couldn't be in crowds. I felt like everybody was staring at me. I also had a feeling like I had something lodged in my throat, when I eventually went to my doctor she told me that the feelings I was experiencing where classic signs of panic attacks.
Angie have you had a bereavent of late or something that has happened in your life that was unexpected. Mine where caused through a bereavement.
My doctor was really helpful and prescribed a beta blocker to calm me down. Go and have a talk with your doctor Angie I'm sure they will be understanding.
Can I just say mine started 9 years ago and have ceased now, my doctor taught a controlled breathing method which really helped.
Take care Angie xx
Try Bach`s Rescue Remedy. It`s excellent for any kind of panic attacks, stressful situations etc.

Thankyou all for your kind & helpful advice. I will make an appointment with my GP first thing Monday morning.
Also I had a good talk today with a nurse I work with (in a nursing home) and that has helped reassure me that I'm not losing the plot.

It's such a horid feeling, and I don't want to go there again.

Thankyou all again.
angie, really great you have spoken to someone today,,, be well
When you see your doctor ask him if Fluoxetine would help. It's an anti-depressant BUT is also used in these circumstances to "take the edge off" so to speak. You will feel more relaxed and in control without being "sedated" so to speak, but it takes about 2 weeks before you feel the full benefit.
