Perhaps the best apps would be talking to their parents face to face without having a wavy-screen stuck in front of their faces.
20.41 has to be BA!!!!
People used to say exactly the same thing about parents letting their youngsters watching TV.

Whether we like it or not, children today need to be computer literate and interactive apps are probably more educational and beneficial than some tv programmes.

CBeebies have some great apps for this age group https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/grownups/article-cbeebies-apps
Atheist has a good point though.

Personally I think 2 is too young. I let my 2 year old granddaughter play with an old laptop, it enables her to be familiar with tech with no side effects. She sits next to me and proudly announces she is doing 'my work' and tells me that is your work (pointing to my work computer).

My Grandson is now 5, he has a tablet but is very regulated by his mum.

Face to face time and friends time cannot be beaten for progressing social skills.

As for apps, each child will be different so look to see what friends have and see if you child likes them.
Different though, barry, ain't it. The internet shows loads of inappropriate stuff which kids can either accidentally or deliberately get to due to lack of parental supervision. TV merely showed mature audience stuff after a watershed time.

Were I a parent I'd be uncomfortable giving any child an internet connected device to play with.

I guess there may possibly be apps suitable for when data is switched off though. Maybe kiddie programmes on a disconnected PC might be better.
You can get tablets specifically for children that have parental controls...for example, Amazon Fire do several.
At 2 to 5 years old that may suffice. But I suspect that later they will be curious and learn how to change settings better than their parents.
OG, the watershed is long gone. Even some very young children have tv in their bedrooms, something I have never agreed with.

Children’s tablets are perfectly safe especially if the installed apps can be used offline. Some interactive storybook apps are fantastic and encourage parental involvement.

I’m not advocating leaving a young child alone on a computer for hours on end but short sessions encourages hand to eye co-ordination, fine motor skills and can be educational.
As a parent, you are familiar with the dilemma of trying to complete a task or eat out without a crying two-year-old requiring your complete attention. However, using a screen doesn't have to be completely useless for learning. The top toddler apps can help keep your little ones occupied while also stimulating their minds.
