Colonoscopy
31 Answers
Did a poo test and they have made an appointment to ring me next week, to discuss whether I need to go for a colonoscopy. While I will of course go if needed, can anyone tell me how bad it really is? Or is it not as bad as it sounds?

They give you a bit of sedation, and it’s not undignified as you are lying on your side with your knees bent, and covered up. The doctor is looking at the screen, so nobody is looking at your parts!
I enjoyed watching the screen, as I found it fascinating! They may take little biopsies as they go round, but you won’t feel it. It was a little uncomfortable as they went round the bend of the colon, but if you tell them if it hurts at all, they will stop. I have had some colonoscopies where I felt literally nothing. The benefits completely outweigh any slight discomfort you may feel. It’s all over in a flash. But do take the sedation, as it makes the whole thing so much easier

This sounds very like what one of my daughters is going through, she has similar appointment on Monday to 'discuss'.
I think the biggest worry it is done (well down here anyway) through the cancer screening and that alone is more frightening for a 37 year old woman than something jammed up her backside (And yes she did make some rather rude quips about it).
Hope it all goes well Lanlkeela.

Well colonoscopy done yesterday and pretty much as everyone said - the procedure itself was a piece of cake but the liquid laxative the night before and on the morning was hell! Sat on the loo, glass in one hand bottle of water in the other and took two mouthfuls followed by a swig of water. Yeuk but it did the job (see what I did there).
Outcome was three small polyps removed and one bigger one like a teardrop - so waiting now to hear the results of biopsies.
Hope all well with you retro.
