Is there something in the idea that kids are more affectionate to
the parent of the opposite sex?
My 2 year old granddaughter is a proper daddy's girl.
In the daytime her mother spends almost every minute of the day
with her. She takes her to the park, swimming, playgroup and doing activities
with her. she reads to her and plays games with her.
BUT when Dad comes home from work she doesnt want her mother,
she's all Dad.
If she gets upset or hurts herself its always dad that she asks for.
If my son pretends to cry, she will cuddle him and rub his arm.
But not if mum does.
Her mother is mature enough to not be bothered by it.
In fact she thinks its great as she herself never had a father in her life to turn to.

Thoughts??

While it may not always apply, yes, IMO this seems often to be the case.
But in your specific case maybe having been with one all day, they are simply pleased to have time with the other. But I still stand by my 1st post.
When I think back, I did tend to be a Daddy's Girl during my school years and then I seemed to become more of a Mummy's Girl later.
My granddaughter is the same. I've known my granddaughter to deliberately ignore her mother.
One of my granddaughters is like this but with me rather than her father. We put it down to her being looked after a lot by just me from a very young age as my daughter had her second only 11 months after and had a very bad pregnancy with lots of hospital appointments.

Since she could speak she runs to me, stands at the door and says bye to her mother. If mother is at the door she tries to close it on her so we have to be very careful now.

I bet mother is the one who disciplines her and has to put up with her tantrums in the supermarket and all those other non-fun things that good parents must do.
In our case no. Mother is far too lax. Some children like discipline and order.

My son is a proper daddy's boy. He loves mummy but he idolises daddy.
Aww look at him now Lcg, he’s really growing up , he’s adorable
He was really sick last night, bobbi, all over a table and chair in the lobby and then several times back in the room.

He's not eaten a morsel today and I've not been able to face food either.
GC @ 17.29 .Maybe it's something you have both eaten .Only asking ??
Are still on holiday Lcg?
Ladycg could he have heat stroke? Keep him cool, sips of water or cool plain tea with sugar or coke or 7up defizzed not more than half small glass in 30 minute intervals or 1/4 glass every 15. Keep him cool If he is not better doctor
Gulliver, I will tell you only one more time... It's LCG, not CG or GC. You know this, you have been told several times before. Do NOT address me as CG or GC again.
Hope you and the little lad are feeling better this morning- as Calmck said, could be result of the intense heat.
