My nephews dog a beautiful collie under 4 years old has aspergillus has anyone heard of this ? It’s a fungal infection that is eating his nose and spreading looks horrid. It is being treated by expert vets. First treatment cost over £3000 pounds but now needs another treatment nephews daughter has put on a go fund me to try and help out. Vet said if not stopped it will eventually reach his brain. So so sad for the family. Don’t know if they should continue but it’s ther pet. Any thoughts on this.
I, personally, would not donate towards something like this. They have paid out a lot of money so far and here is no way of knowing how much more is required.
If it was a human they would be forced to endure the illness and continue to suffer. They have to decide what is the morally correct thing to do at some stage.
Susan??? Yes Anne they do but not covered as insurance said infection must have started before the took out insurance. But have had insurance since last year I don’t know how these things work. Initially vet said one treatment would fix it so they took chance but now they say he will need another which means a lot of money to maybe lose him in the end.
Me too Tilly. And I do wish humans could benefit by this as well. Whilst an animal is happy I would keep him going, but when they start to suffer then I think euthanasia is kindness. Doesn't matter if it looks horrible. The dog won't care.
This is very difficult and one of those cases where there is no right answer to. Been in similar situations with my pet rats- spent hundreds of pounds once but in hindsight if I’m honest the prolonged treatment contributed to its distress I should have had it pts.
Then again you still want to give pets a chance, it’s about getting the balance right.
How likely are these treatments to work? I would get more info on this first
