I pay to avoid adverts between YouTube videos but I still see them embedded inside videos? Is this something new?

Are they part of the channel owner's original video ?

Yes, Old Geezer. This appears to be a new “feature” to enable creators to even further monetise their videos. I’m just surprised that they’re not filtered out by YouTube so that those such as me who pay monthly to avoid ads don’t have to watch them.
I watch vlogs of people living on narrow boats as continuous cruisers and some have started promoting products. That's when I stop watching.

I don't really grasp the sort of adverts you are seeing. Do you mean the video stops suddenly and ads start playing? You shouldn't be seeing them. Are the creators using copyrighted music by any chance?

Barry, the video creator suddenly goes into a 5 minute spiel into some product or other, then returns to what he was originally talking about. This never happened until recently and is very annoying since I pay monthly to avoid ads.
That's when I stop following, paid product placement is the name for it.
I always tell them why I have stopped watching them in the comments.
Hello Fresh, electric bikes and thermal cooking pots seem to be a favourite with boaters.
You pay premium for the video not to be interrupted by additional advertisements. If the channel owner has a sponsor they wish to recommend then premium doesn't effect that. I have no experience of running a channel but maybe it's the sponsor that keeps the channel afloat ? I know some channels that complain of being demonitorised because YouTube dislikes their subject matter, so they rely on sponsorship in various forms.
Nothing would affect this kind of in-video promotion, not even an ad-blocker, which is what I use. All you can do is grin and bear it or skip past it. Personally I don’t feel that this type of self-promotion is as bad as general, random adverts for things I don’t need which is why I block them.

I’m all for people making money for good content but I know that YouTubers get paid by the minute that their content is watched. Many have been able to give up their day jobs and fly round the world in premium class. This is before they took to including sponsor adverts which has happened quite recently. They also get paid a portion of those such as myself who subscribe monthly.

I feel that the new method of paid promotion is a step too far and negates my paying the monthly fee. I think that this sort of greed could kill the golden egg.
YouTube opting to put loads of interrupting ads on hasn't killed it so far; and I thought that a major downturn. Other video hosting sites simply aren't as slick (yet). So folk put up with it as best they are able.
I thought YouTubers got paid by the number of ads watched and the amount of premium subscribers, not per minute of content viewed.

I am shocked at the amount of money some YouTubers make from viewers 'buying them a coffee' or becoming patreons and similar.
