A quick search on line reveals that there are currently 35 British Grand Masters, about 1 per every 2 million of the population.

With an ELO rating of 2150 I’m not very good at cheating - I could easily improve my rating by playing computer moves (but what’s the point of that?).

The chess engine Stockfish will run on any decent home PC, and beat the world chess champion.
