Strange because Octopus are rated top for care and customer service of all the energy companies.
In fact, when I was several hundred pounds in credit earlier this year, they emailed me asking did I want it refunded and how did I want it.
I left it with them and today have just taken out a Loyalty 12-month fixed deal.
why bother, just stop the DD till it catches up.
^perhaps the OP wants/needs the £500 now?
Do not cancel the DD, most gas companies offer a DD discount and wave the deposit if you pay by DD.
When you cancel the DD they will add all of the above and it could put you in debt.
The whole point of the monthly DD system is to build up a balance for the winter so the cost is even through the year.
^yes, TTT, we know that...but you can have too much credit...and Octopus seem to agree, as they are offering a refund to the OP.
...funny I though they post was about not being able to get a refund. If it's octopus you can alter the DD yourself. Change it to £1 until you are happy with the balance. Simples.
^^^ TTT:
Some people have cash flow problems.

If, say, Slocjo needs the £500 for urgent repairs to his car (without which he won't be able to get to work), he needs it right now and not spread out over several months of savings through paying a lesser amount on his direct debit each month.
No, they have offered a refund - but it's not being processed apparently.
As I've said, the OP may need the £500 now.
well he's been waiting a month so it can't be that urgent.
Some on here are being deliberately obtuse...
My experience is that Octopus are very communicative, helpful and open about how they work. They are also active in their communication with customers and the government.
That's just my experience.

Hello all

I have been reading the comments & some make me laugh (but I don't feel like laughing).. Firstly people don't know my money situation and £500 is alot of money which I really need at the moment that's why I asked octopus I would like it refunded.. I definitely won't cancel my DD. Thanks for the contact email & will send him a message..

Warning: If you cancel the DD and they try unsuccessfully to collect, they register it with a Credit Agency as a default - and it's bloody difficult to get that rescinded too.
