It looks like the battle of Tara was in Meath rather than Wexford

I wonder if it's a setter's error as there is also a Tara Hill in Wexford but the battle took place, as you say, Toorak, in |Meath

It could be - there is nothing in the wiki entry for the one in Wexford to indicate a battle

It's Gory sounds like Gorey and a regular clue on RTÉ Guide 
Tara is not in Wexford :)

I think the answer is Gory.

Someone just cannot spell and left out the E (Gorey)

Perhaps I'm wrong,  just an idea  as the G & R would fit with 16d and 23d.

Gory is OK for spelling word meaning bloody.
