.............is nothing new. Wales isn't the first place in this country to implement it. In 2007, Manchester City Council proposed the introduction of a traffic charging scheme whereby any vehicle entering within a 6 mile radius of the city centre would pay the relevant charge. The council held a referendum among the locals and the result was 60-40 against it, which the council duly honoured. (I must say I was surprised that 40% voted for it!) Anyway, not long after the result, without any warning or public notices, MCC introduced a 20mph speed limit on 3,000 roads and streets. They also increased the number of traffic control measures, eg, speed bumps, road narrowing, traffic islands etc as well as reducing the number of parking spaces in the city along with increases in parking fees and increased penalty fees. The motorist is the enemy folks! That7 means me and thee!

It's new insofar as it applies to all towns & cities in the country.

Thanks. I was just pointing out that this has been done long before Wales did it, as Barry posted.

Yeah, it seems authorities can be scumbags wherever they are. And introducing oppressive legislation to bully the public gets introduced gradually so the public gets to accept it rather than organise proper nationwide opposition. But this idea of the whole country getting stuffed is utterly beyond the Pale. Those responsible need to be slung out of office before they introduce more restrictions, and the mess they've already made reverted back to sanity.

OG, only about 7,700 miles of the 22,000 miles with 30mph limits are affected in Wales so it's hardly, "the whole country getting stuffed", is it?

'I was just pointing out that this has been done long before Wales did it'

but not by a country. Which, As I pointed out, is new.

Yes it is. The whole country is stuffed with massive number of roads with a ridiculously slow limit.

Driving along...and not so young lady pokes her head through my window asking if I wanted a good time...I replied no thanks..I'm just trying to keep to the limit!!

Was you in a traffic jam, Ryzan?  20mph still far exceeds walking pace, never mind hooking pace

But Wales isn't a country. It's part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Scotland and England aren't countries, either.

16:49....whoosh

Folk tend to use the words country and nation interchangeably. I think most citizens would say that the 4 areas that comprise the union were each countries, regardless of official definitions.
