Am I Right To Be Feeling This Way?
Family Life0 min ago
After months of tryingv via GP ect, im finallly down for an alohol detox, in a medical setting. (ie, in an inpatient ward with appropriatte meds for withdrawal) Its a 7 day 'in house' course.
And am currently engaged with a weekly group for people on the same path. (its a long waiting list) could be next year...
Nailedit - I am very sorry to hear of your continuing struggles.
I once had a long term client who had a similar issue. He did manage to get off the drink. He did it by slowly lengthening the time between when he stopped drinking and when he started again. Just by a little bit at a time. I can't remember precisely what he did but it was something like if he had his last drink at 1am and would normally drink again at 10am, he would go til 10.30am and the next day 11am and so on, until he was able to do one day a week without and then two days (not together). Every day he felt a small achievement.
This may not be right for you because of your medical dependency, but worth a thought?
The trouble is Nailedit will know what he should be doing but just can't do it. Unless you have been there yourself it's difficult to understand. I've been given so much advice about controlling my anxieties and OCD and very few people can understand why I can't do what I should do and hate myself because of it. I see alcoholism and addiction as mental health problems which need treating with compassion. Most of us here are with you Nailedit.
On the bright side (you won't appreciate this right now) at least you are down on a list for a medically supervised detox.
This is a massive step forward. Others have said what I will say now - if you can win even a small battle with alcohol (like putting off that first drink of the day for just half an hour) then that is really a huge step for you and you can be proud of it and yourself. Keep trying on small, achievable things like that until you get to the help.
There are others in your weekly group on the same path = you are not alone....... that matters.
