Can Someone Help Please, Light Bulbs.
How it Works2 mins ago
My gas boiler is working ok but the thermostat on the hall wall which is the old round contol and is 13 years old is a problem - I have to turn it almost fully to right and boiler cuts in and turn left and boiler stops.
Used to be able to set it to the say 25 degree mark and it would go on/off automatically keeping temp right in flat. Also when I set it at some points it keeps clicking intermittently.
Boiler is perfect so if I call an electrician will he be able to fit a new t'stat similar or a digital one and is this an easy job without having to touch the boiler?
Thanks
Moggie
There are still many non smart thermostats around so dont be sold one unless you really want them. My daugher had one and its been continual trouble - I did warn her.
As Aethist says about 30 min job but you will be charged an hour for callout at a min though most lilkely.
The boiler does not need to be touched (from the description you gave).
It's easy and legal to do it yourself. Look on Screwfix (or similar) for one like yours, turn off the central heating and then do a straight swap. There's no calibrating/resetting/draining or anything complicated - just make sure the CH is turned off or one of the wires might be live. About £20 for a simple 3-wire thermostat.
