Is it the ringer you can't hear?

Question Author

Yes,when anyone rings us because the phone is in the study not the lounge we can't hear it... can't put phone in lounge as router is in study.

What phone do you have? Is there a setting to increase the ringer volume?

Can you run an extension cable from the BT socket to where you want the hub and phone?

Alternatively get some cordless phones - that way you can have a handset in other rooms.

DV phones work off broadband you will need a WIFI extender or if you want to use cordless phone you will need an analog to digital adapter some on Ebay.

You may have been supplied with an adapter that plugs in to your old phone socket and let's you plug your phone in to that, or any cheap extending ringer (usually used in very large houses or by the hard of hearing).

If you don't have the adapter ask BT for one, there shouldn't be a charge.  At the same time ask them why your phone is nor ringing as it should.

If BT sent you the "Advanced Digital Home Phone" it's on page 23 of the manual - https://tinyurl.com/3xnc76j8

If you have a different phone, can you tell us the make & model, please?

If you are a BT customer they will give you a free BT Digital Voice Adapter just go on their site.  They ask for your phone number then give you a code which you use on the EE site and instead of charging you £20 for it they send it free and that plugs into any electric socket and you just plug your phone into that instead of it going into the router.

Will the voice adapter make the ring tone any louder? we have missed a few calls when people have rung us..have seen an advert somewhere of people who use an amplifier in large houses or for the hard to hear..does anyone know of these?

I mentioned the amplified ringer yesterday at 22:18, you could plug that in to the adapter, but have you checked the ring volume in your phone's settings?  Is it set to maximum?

Extending phone ringers are readily available and can be plugged in to the router or your old phone socket via an adapter

I'm assuming your setup WAS

Hub into filter into a BT socket.  Phone into filter into a BT socket, not necessarily in same location as hub.

NOW:

Hub into filter into a BT socket in Study.  Phone into back of hub (possibly via an adapter unless adapter not needed by the hub).  All other BT sockets redundant as no longer working due to change to digital.

SOLUTION:

Get cordless phones (and optional socket doubler).  Connect cordless base station into hub in place of existing phone (if you want to keep existing phone, then thats where you need socket doubler into hub, and existing phone and base station into doubler).  Setup second cordless phone handset and charger in lounge.

Thank you all for your comments..Son has just visited & said just put hand set in lounge & recharge it overnight in study..problem solved.

Glad you are sorted

You might be able to get an additional phone and charger to go with the one you have.

Look up the manual for the phone (manual will be online if you don't have it) - it will tell you the model number of compatible handsets.  Then look on Amazon or ebay.
