My Little Kittens

Last week I rescued five kittens and i guess they are one week old, i don't know how to feed them. I'm only giving them milk and in a milk bottle, I'm wondering do I need to give them something more like chicken, two kittens are so weak.

A vet would no doubt suggest how best to feed them. They may even need checking over.

Take them to a rescue centre or get someone with knowledge to help hand rear them. Cows milk is actually bad for them so they will not thrive on that.

Do you know what happened to their mother. They are far too young to be away from her. You can buy cats milk but I still go with my first post. See a vet as they may not survive.

We had a stray who produced kittens one of which was very weak. The vet sold us some special formula which we made up and fed with a pipette. Vet by far the best option.

Ideally they should have a foster cat, a rescue centre might know of a cat who has kittens that would care for them. They are far too young for solid food yet. Its not unusual to have a weak kitten or two, they may not live. Its called fading kitten syndrome.

You really need to speak to the vet... they are much too young to be away from mum, and will need specialised care.

I think you definitely need advice from professionals, vet or cats rescue. You will feel awful if some or all die.

You need:

5 litter trays/litter
5 food bowls and 5 water bowls. Keep a gap between food and water areas.

Kitten food. Simple stuff like chicken/rice combos.
Until then, a bit of cooked chicken maybe, but IANAV.
Only water to drink usually.

Yes, get them checked for chips at the vet. If not chipped, they are yours (if not going to cats protection/ blue cross) and get them chipped with your details. Also get them jabbed and neutered.

Get some ping-long balls – best kitten toy ever! Endless fun.
