It is clear from the animated tracking that they were both heading in a straight line on a collision course. And that any attempt to steer away was last minute.
It would be very dark at that time, I wonder if there was fog about.
Shouldnt matter they dont need to 'see' thse days. More likely someone was popped up or asleep at the wheel and ignored the warning siren. Those things take over 1/4 mile to take any sort of action so last minute is out of the question.
It is odd it sunk, dont get many sinkings these days outside of war thank goodness.
