If you farted in space, would it smell? Or would the vacuum prevent this? If so, where would the smell go?

Well you'd be wearing a spacesuit...
a smell is just particles of the substance, so, yes, it would smell, but you'd soon suffocate.
if you were to open an oxygen tank in space would you expect to be able to breath? of course not. the fact that space is a near vacuum means that the air is spread very thin very fast as would be the same with other noxious gasses. maybe if your face was right next to the ofending orifice the smell would reach you, but you would not be able to breath it in as there is no air.
this is the perfect excuse to revive the shuttle missions. maybe they could catch a fart in a hermetically sealed jar, and see if the concentrated smell (concentrated as there would be no air inside) could be used as a weapon of mass destruction.
mind boggling
