I bought a 28cm Tefal frying pan recently. However, when I put cooking oil into it, the oil goes out to the edge of the pan rather than sitting all over the surface.

This go gave me go vsuggesting to me that the centre of my the pan is slightly raised, rather than being completely flat.

Is this a fault with the pan, or is it supposed to be this way by design?

There are some relevant posts here, two of which specifically mention T-fal pans.  ('T-fal' is the branding used instead of 'Tefal' in the USA):https://www.reddit.com/r/AskCulinary/comments/r8sahh/why_is_my_pan_slightly_raised_in_the_middle/?rdt=51847

My non stick pans all seem to do that.

I suspect its non-stick, so you don't need oil.

Pasta, maybe that's just the way they are then.

Winner, I think oil is required for cooking certain foods rather than relying on only heat. Especially meats.

We always add a touch of oil, but not much, not enough for it to collect either side. You've done nothing wrong. We like Tefal.

p.s. we are vegetarian.

Oh well, there's your answer!!! 😂

(Only joking - honest!)

well we are, this week!

We still fry eggs, do fried onions, and fry off base mix before making a pie, or fry off peppers/onions before making vegetarian lasagne etc. When we ate meat, yes, we seared before braising.

Did you pre oil the pan before first use

Calmck, no I didn't do that, even though now that you say that, I've read about that previously.

But the instructions for this pan didn't say to do that, it only said to wash it gently with soap and water.

There you go see, buying a T-fail.

Aren't all pans less than perfect and the oil goes to specific areas ?

Oil/fat is part of the cooking process and the end flavour. No pan coating will encourage me to skimp on it.

I'm the same O_G...I always use a bit of butter, olive, or coconut oil.

I use one specifically for panckes an on an induction hob.

after a few moths it stated rocking on the surface, which of couse is dead flat.

I guess it must be the heat used. Anyway from time to time I treat it to a technical adjustment.

Turn it upside down on a chopping board....

...and whack it hard with a mallet! Sorts it fine for a while. :)
