Christmas Food Adverts

Why are the likes of ALDI, Sainsburys amd M&S bombarding us with Christmas food ads in the first part of November? 

Who on earth is even thinking  about Christmas food at the moment, let alone actually buying it?

I've been thinking about Christmas food.  I made cakes, puddings and mincemeat at the weekend - but they need making in advance so the flavours develop.

I shall also be making stuff and putting it in the freezer (including doing all the veg) so it is mainly done by Christmas.  And I shall probably buy some bung in the oven type nibbles and stick them in the freezer too for a) unexpected guests and b) I can't be bothered to cook nibbles.  I am determined to be organised this year and not do a Christmas Eve dash to the shops.

I remember seeing in one supermarket a few years ago, gift packs of fancy cheeses on a board with a cheese knife. Trouble was, the cheese was out of date well before Christmas!

I am most certainly thinking of Christmas food now. Due to unfortunate family circumstances I have to plan and cater for those who will be with us over the festive season and those who are not. Their likes and dislikes and what is affordable and available. Every year the doom merchants tell us the sprouts have had a bad season or no Turkeys available. It's all rubbish but I do always plan ahead if freezer space allows.

I parboil the potatoes and parsnips, open freeze them and then vacuum pack.  Leeks I chop and vacuum pack.  But I am not sure what else I might do.  Brussels are obviously already on the hob.

I mean if auntie Betty is the only one who likes eggnog but is not attending I cross eggnog off the usual list. Like wise other drinks and food.

My grand daughters will not be with us this year so no J2Os. They love Ice cream and forest fruits. No one else does but I get certain favourite cheeses instead for those who prefer Port and cheese. It save waste,which I hate,but keeps everyone catered for.

mmmmm roast turkey , pork , beef , sausage stuffing, pigs in blankets , roast potatoes , sprouts , carrots , new potatoes , roast parsnip , mmmmmm toffee and maple roulade , vienetta extra thick salted caramel cream mmmmmmmm cheese and buscuits mmmmmmmm
