If There Was Any Doubt Of Labour's Anti...

Bought the wee basic mobile and as £10 would do me nearly a year I got a fella in the phone shop to set it up for me so I asked him to ring my house I knew that a pound or two would go I was astonished when he told me I have to top up ten pounds every month. Surely that is like a contract. This phone was to be in my car for emergency. Now I can't use it at all

I can choose to and get the inclusive texts/minutes renewed, or I can opt not to and use the credit I already have on the phone to text and make calls. It's still PAYG but there is that monthly cycle if I don't wish to run the credit down.
Yours may be similar. I have no idea how long £10 will last you. Depends on how often you use it. However be aware if you intend to just put it in the glove compartment and never use it; these companies aren't prepared to give you a phone number and make nothing on the deal. There will be a period after which, if the phone hasn't been used, they will recover that number to use again and you will no longer have it. So make use of the phone often enough to prevent that.
Thanks, Shedman, I see the triple credit tariff gives you 75 minutes for your original £10, and the free £20 expires in one month.
The 1p tariff I linked to gives 1000 minutes to use in three months so it's a question as to which is better value for the individual. If you rarely use the phone the £20 free credit is of very little benefit but 75 minutes could be gobbled up in one or two calls.
I don't know why these things have to be so complicated.
