Very slow to get going on this today.

Each clue has one word removed before solving. And a letter removed from answer before entry. Wordplay refers to truncated answer. Please help with 1a Crown officer's late guilty confession finishing off fellow (7) and 7a Could be banquet hugely entertains one servant (6)

1a (for the dying) a 'late confession' = SHRIF(t) 'finishing off' means it's cut short + F(ollowing) = SH(E)RIFF with 'guilty' as the extra word - and the (E) moved to the edge.

I have completed grid and have the five thematic members so I know the geographic area I need to focus on. However I am struggling to to determine the instruction from the first, third or fifth letters of extra words. I think I have the first three words of the instruction with letter lengths 8,5 and 9. Hints as to remaining words would be very welcome.

You're right - then it's 6,3,11 the 3 is 'and', so there's something else (apart from the obvious).

Morning all. Am struggling with this one. Any chance of a wee bit of help ?  21a. Vehicle initially onboard this large Irish vessel (7).  I have ????t? in the grid plus a perimeter space for the letter(s) removed. Corvette is a vessel, but with the 2 'e's removed I can't parse corvtt. Also, any help with 6d. Brother heads to town and thankfully calms local brawl (6). I have F??t?

21a - CAR + initials of the next 4 words [after removing the extra word 'large'] def is 'vessel' (anatomic) the final 'd' isn't clued.

6d - (obscure dialect) 'brother' = FR + then initial letters again [after removing extra 'town'] the final 'h' isn't clued (def 'local brawl').
