I was surprised to see myself on TV when I watched the recording yesterday. Good pics as we saluted Princess Anne. And no, Naomi. I wasn't the bloke in the middle of 500 of them. I was the bloke in the middle of 10,000 of them!π
I was really, really annoyed with myself because I went to Whitehall without my HMS Glorious cap, so having told you to look for that, I wasn't wearing it! Grr. However, you wouldn't have seen our group because just before we reached The Cenotaph, the BBC cut to Sophie Raworth on Horseguards and when the coverage went back, we'd gone through. However, there were good images of us marching past Princess Anne, as mentioned before.
On a seperate issue, our association is considering writing to the RBL to ask for better placement in the parade for Royal Navy groups. They are always positioned right at the back, which some think is wrong, because the Royal Navy is the senior service, a fact which the RBL clearly recognise by the opening music to the service, which is always Rule Britannia and Hearts of Oak. Other groups felt the same.
A funny thing though from Sunday morning. As the parade proceeded, in the column next to us was a large group of RAF veterans and as they began marching past us, all the Navy groups started singing the theme from The Dam Busters and doing aeroplanes. The RAF mob thought it was hilarious, as did the watching crowd. Good fun! This is what you don't see on TV and there's lots of things like that.
Thanks for the replies folks. I didn't take any photos. A few in our group took plenty. I have taken some over the years, especially one year when we were positioned right next to Cpl Beharry V.C. and Bill Speakman V.C. They were right next to us in the adjacent column, at the time, the newest V.C. and the oldest V.C.
