Ovarian cyst removal
6 Answers
I have been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst which is 8.1 x 6.2 x 4.5cm and have been given the option of leaving it, having it drained or having it surgically removed. it has previously caused me some pain which involved several short trips to various A&E departments. i don't want it drained as i have been informed that the cyst could fill up again. has anyone experienced anything similar and what action did they take?

I doubt having just the cyst removed will cause any problems with regards to this, but I have heard that even if a cyst is removed it can come back again and cause further problems. If you do not want to have any more children, then to be honest, I would suggest you talk to your doc about the possibility of having a hysterectomy. I had one when I was 34 and within a few weeks it really felt like someone had given me my life back, no more pain at all. plus the bonus of no more periods to worry about. You need to talk to your doctor about all your options and take time to make an informed decision. But leaving the cyst in is not a good idea, as this is also the kind of thing cancer likes to attack. Why give it that option? Good luck. Hope you feel an awful lot better very soon. :o)
i have the same problem (well a dermoid cyst), they advised me that because i have never had children then i should leave it for now (unless it gets bigger) as removing it may cause more problems.
At the moment i dont know it is there (i have other problems anyway). My only worry is how will i ever know if it gets any bigger - but been there for over 5 years now and i have been ok.
Hope all works out well for you :-)
