An old lady once told me, 'Naomi, there is nothing to recommend old age'.

Is there?

I can walk unaided indoors but get told off!  I use my fantactic rollator when walking outside.  Norwegian made with big wheels to go over rough ground. and I can stand inside the frame which helps with posture.  It's my best friend.

My condition isn't due to old age but old age has made it far worse.

However for months  now I've been stuck inside.  My back completely gave up.  Slowly improving.

Gill, I admire you a lot.  You are one determined and resilient lady!

Retro,  don't you blinking go anywhere!  I wish you well.

I'm lucky to have very active 77 yesr old husband, but his knees zare   now suffering.  The dog is still getting her long walks.

Two or three steps and I'm struggling for breath.

COPD is awful.  Oh how I wish I hadn't smoked.

I no longer pack lunch, flask, and set the alarm for 5am to go to work. But I still do all the above and drive 20min in any direction and sit for up to 10 hours in a idyllic peacefull picturesque setting away from the rat race. My 8/10 stint is spent dragging out hefty monster fish with a 10 meter pole, its getting a little hard on the right arm these days, but with the asistance of a elbow and wrist brace it allows me to continue, until I guess a monster drags me into the lake, so if I go missing from AB? A picnic every other day during spring and summer if you like.Winter YUCK, cant hack the cold now, so all gear packed away and waiting. :>(

Oh yes, that I don't really give a #### attitude that can me with the realisation that very few people even notice what you are up to,  and the bus pass is useful too

Strange - after reading posts about old age, I've just had a phone call.  My  Aunt, the last of my relatives in the previous generation has died aged 96 after a very short illness. Night night Auntie Mary.  She had led  a very happy content life with  o major illnesses or worries.

No major illnesses.

I agree with melv...being invisible seems to be part of the territory. That and aching joints...which add to a loss of confidence. There are things that need doing here...small stuff...but I've become afraid to tackle them. Like curtain/ pole hanging. My very low step stool scares me. Moving anything heavy leaves me aching for days. I get very...VERY...frustrated. Though I was able to paint 2 rooms over late summer into October. Not a very good job...but helped change my outlook to see colour instead of bland white. That excites me. Now to give some thought to hanging art on the walls.

If I don't do some difficult things, I spend way too much time sitting and thinking...especially this time of year. I used to get out walking every day...now I look for reasons not to...like today's wind. I am planning to order a SAD light this week...it might help alleviate the grey cloud over my head.

Thank you, naomi. Made my day!

As I said a lot of people worse off - I have my sight and all my marbles (at the moment).

Poor you with COPD, lb. I have never smoked but parents didn't so suppose that helped.

Determination from my Dad.  He was also disabled and not to be beaten.

Us over 60's can get 10% off in Iceland on a Tuesday!!

im with andy on his view, i do the same ie heavy rock gigs jeans leather jacket black tour t-shirt, dont feel old persay, still love to go to concerts, famous bands and pub bands, older wiser but still that young man i once was in my heart...

I was once told that I was over the hill, to which I said that being over the hill is better than being under the ground.

yeh my advice to the young is

dont get old and dont get cancer

( to which the answer is: that's a bit of an ask!)

Yes! Calmness that comes with experience. Resiliance, and knowing yourself, in your place in the world. With age comes with a new ability for perspectives.
