The gale here has blown my satellite dish down and it's hanging by its cable bashing in to my bedroom window. I'm worried it's going to break it.

Is it safe to just cut the cable?
I've put this in Chatterbank asi thought more people might see it. Thanks

Yes.

I would disconnect it at the receiver end first. The receiver supplies a small current to the dish and cutting it might cause a short circuit which could damage the receiver. It's only a small voltage so no danger of electric shock.

Thank you both. The wind took the decision out of my hands in the end. The cable alone is flapping around now.

Where's the dish?

On the floor.

In the rose bed?

I found the dish and its now safe in my porch. It's a sad, rusty shell.

It's in the sand

Question Author

Hopkirk, it probably would be if the gale was blowing the other way. Actually, it might have been in the sea

That was one for the oldies
