Being The Victim Of A Car Accident Scam

Ever had a very minor bump in your car and the unharmed owner of the undamaged other vehicle has totally exaggerated the situation and claimed loads of money?  If so, did you let your respective insurance firms deal with it?   Did you also go to the police in the belief you were being scammed, and if so what did they do?  How was the case resolved?  And if you could go back in time to then knowing what you do know, what would you do differently?
