i know i'm fat, i'm 19 stone, and 5"8" but i'm very stocky, i can lift 30 stone and am very solid, no wobbly bits as such, i watch what i eat and i cycle over 20 miles a day and swim for half hour 3 time a week, i don't feel unfit, i never get colds or flu and only took time of work because of broken foot for the first time in 20 years. i enjoy walking at weekends , me doctor says i should weigh 10 1/2 stone so i am morbidly obese, because he measures by height alone, so how much should i weigh, i never weighed that even when i used too jog 10 miles a day, (ten years ago mind you) i think i put on weight when i startred cycling more
so how should i measure my bmi

Your BMI is 64 and should be between 20-25. This is going by your height and weight. Hope this helps.
Sorry your BMI is 41. I read that you weigh 30stone, not that you can lift 30 stones. LOL.

yes i'm fat, by height alone, but these facts do not take into account muscle, i don't believe that i'm carring 8 and 1/2 stone of fat

as tonyted says, BMI is nonsense, it has virtually been dismissed by doctors as it doesnt differentiate between muscle and fat, sounds to me like ur healthy but see a different doctor if ur really worried!
BMI is a load of b*ll*x! It's far to simplistic to be of any real value.

I remember reading that, for some reason, the BMI thresholds were reviewed in the US, and at a stroke several million Americans were 'overweight' rather than 'normal'. Which just shows how daft it is - one day you're healthy, the next you're not.

Don't worry about it. You sound very healthy to me - I'm envious!

BTW, I believe Brad Pitt is overweight by BMI standards, and George Cluney obese. And as tonyted says hundreds of top sportsmen are obese & worse.
i agree with everybody who says that bmi is o load of sh&te; so if it's a general opinion why o why do insurance companies use it as a way of setting a premium. I too know I'm overweight, but I'm pretty sure im more healthy than most of my under weight friends who are not penalised by their insurance companies. Its a fact that sufferers of eating disorders can end up with more permanent health problems than somebody who's a couple of stone overweight!
another thing: when insurers ask health questions, they dont take into account all the facts; eg pregnancy.
AND another rant! because i have to visit my doctor every six months for a contraception check up (otherwise they wont prescribe it!); weigh in, blood pressure check, they have a record of my weight. if it wasnt for this silly rule i could have lied to my insurance company and said i weigh 9 stone!
then again i could always lose weight but i like food too much!
