Spectator 1785

I'm really struggling with this. I've done all the clued lights but have absolutely no inspiration about the unclued ones.
I'm looking for - I think - an author / artist / pop singer who died either in July 2006 or July 1785.
His name is 14 letters ( 2 words), and is an anagram of 2 unclued lights.
M - N K ( monk / mink) & - S - E - I - L - Y (especially / as genially / is serially or whatever)
Does anyone have any ideas?

How did you guess that in all the excitement of filling in the remaining blanks I would probably forget to highlight Hammer? Funnily enough I had looked that name up quite early on in the proceedings but both my Larousse & Chambers Dictionaries of fictional characters only acknowledge Paul Hammer from Bullet Park by John Cheever ! Have either of you read it , or even heard of it? Me neither!
Although Mickey Spillane is not my sort of reading I still should have got it - easily said with hindsight.
So thank you both for your very generous help.
