See if there's anything based in a school or college that might suit - clerical, library, kitchen, classroom assistant etc. If there's nothing in your kids' school, there may be something in a nearby one.
a lot of public sector jobs work in term time. If you have a local government say CSA in your area try them. Not the ideal people to work for but the pay and pensions are very good.
I too have had this problem but was lucky enough to get a job with playschool, unfortunately we then moved out of the area!

The only other job I've been successful with was working in a shop in the run up to Christmas, I worked 10 - 2 (basically covering the full time peoples lunch times) Monday to Friday.

Good luck!
As a lone parent, I have found it near impossible. So now have gone for full time employment.
Ask in school about dinner-time work, either in the kitchen or playground.Get in touch with your local education authority about term-time jobs.Is there a school crossing patrol(lollypop person?).
If you like working with children why not become a Teaching Assistant, I started this and went on to become a science teacher - good pay and excellent holidays!
Do you Live in the U.S.?

If so, I found a work at home company that is good standing with the Better Business Beaural. I'm with Stayin Home and Lovin It! and they are partnered with a wellness company that is 21 years old. If you are looking for a full income to live on from day one it is not for you. It takes a few months to work up to an income you can live on and depends on how well you can do it. No get rich quick thing, but completely ligit and flexible. I am not a mom, I have physical limitations that prevent me from having a job outside the home, However the woman who brought me to this great oppertunity is a mother of 2 little ones and she loves it and is doing very well at it. There's no selling, no cold calls, no big investment, and no risk. You can not lose anything if you give it a chance. They give great training, tips, and constant support. I am not alone, they really care and want you to make money. If you would like more information you may send your email address to -- [email protected]
There is so much information I can't sum it up here.

Just a little advice in searching for a work at home company. I was scammed so many times before finding this and I would like to let you know a few things I learned.

search.bbb.org is great to look up any company by name, address, or url. Watch out for the name change game. Most companies change their name to excape their bad reputation so they may not come up on the site because they are newly named. I wouldn't trust any company that the BBB doesn't know about. Good Luck and be careful.
