catalyst converter

I have a Ford Focus and it requires a new catalyst converter. The Garage I took it too say they can order a Ford part or a Non Ford part, however they recommend I go for the more expensive Ford Catalyst converter as the others may cause problems in the future....is this true or am I being taken for a mug???

Ford do not make parts themselves someone has to make them for them. The parts available form Motor factors are cheaper and usually the same part as Ford will supply less the ford logo.
If the place the garage are buying from is any good they will be able to supply a Declaration of Conformance for the part in question. This will say the part is of the same quality and design as the OE part.
