1D Was an editor getting nobleman into grass?  REVISED (it's the only word I can fit)

20D Get hold of politician - time to do something!  C-N-A--  I'm thinking CONTACT, because of "Get hold of", but can't work it out.

28A About to be taken in just a bit? Walk on --E-D  Assuming 20D ends with T, then it could be TREAD (as in "walk on"), but why?
