Lousy Voiceovers

I do enjoy nice voices, men and women, and grating ones really bug me.

I am trying to enjoy reruns of 'Call The Baliffs', but I have to grit my teeth when the voiceover comes in.

Actor Paul Barber talks so slowly, it's like he's talking to someone who speaks English as a third language!

I think the programme makers can assume basic English on the part of their audience, so why not have their programme voiced by someone who can speak properly. 

Things like thus bug me, but I'm probably in the minority. 

Any thoughts?

It may be my hearing at fault but I am finding Nick Robinson's delivery increasingly annoying on the "Today" programme. 

Particularly when he fluffs a line or tries to hurry all I hear is a guttural mishmash.

Someone I've just thought of who had a lovely, gentle voice was Oliver Postgate, who narrated the children's programmes Ivor the Engine and Noggin the Nog.

Brainiac - How true, I adored Nogin, and the sound of Mr Postgate instantly sends me back to my childhood.

And there was the famous actor (whose name I've forgotten) who did The Night Garden.

I used to like listening to him but haven't heard him for a while so don't know if his speech delivery has been affected.

I am watching a couple of Netfli series right now, and of course, they don't let you skip the adverts which I do as a matter of course, I haven't watched an evening of adverts for years.

So I have to endure them, and two more voices have conspired to make my teeth itch - 

The guy who appeals for donations to Cancer UK, horrible growly London accent.

And the guy who does a Swedish accent on the Ikea advert - "The wonderful everyday ..."

Horrible!

Why don't you turn the sound off when the ads come on Andy if they annoy you.  I do.
