Can tree ferns be brought inside a house over the winter

I would say yes to that question but as long as you keep the 'trunk' moist at all times, because much of the roots are contained within its false trunk which is made up of dead fronds.
The most hardy of the tree ferns is- Dixonia Antartica, which I believe grows as far south as Tazmania in in its native Australia, they can be kept outside over winter if you have a sheltered warm spot in a milder region of the UK, I've had one outside for about 10 years and put a loose ball of hay in the crown in late autumn to protect newly developing fronds from frost, which is its main enemy ,appart from drying out that is.
If the 'trunk' is clear of fronds, it can be wrapped in a fleece or hessian sacking but avoid plastic sheeting as it may cause it to rot due to the lack of ventilation. Good Luck Tbird+
