Unsure I understand. Surely the US allows any gun owner to do anything they like to someone who enters their property without permission ? That's what all the reports and films tell us. Or is Hollywood etc. lying to us ?

As I understand it he lied about what happened. "Tripped over a nail on his porc", hunters did it.

The car was turning around to leave, she was shot in the back.

I've not looked at the video...but I read about several similar cases last year. One included a guy knocking at the wrong door if I'm not mistaken.

I watched most of the video.

The interesting point the lawyer made was that unlike Florida and Texas, where the law supports defence of threats to life and property with lethal force, under New York law, if you have an avenue of escape, you are obliged to take it, and failure to so so is liable to result in charges.

It's just unbelievable, isn't it?

A car pulled onto my driveway a while ago, I looked out of the window and saw my next-door neighbour sitting in the passenger seat. Someone had given her a lift home from somewhere and couldn't park on her drive because her car was parked there.

If I owned a gun, would I go out there and shoot them? Of course not, but why?

Do we think differently to people from countries who are allowed to own a gun to protect themselves?

As someone from America, I was hoping you might be able to give an insight into why this happens there. Do you think the Americans are more suspicious of people than we are in this country?

The Americans seem to have the old frontier / wild west , mentality .

Just shoot em to show how tough you are , then back to poker  at the saloon table

This man was clearly a psychopath and a gun nut, which is a lethal combination. 

Apparently his wife was holding a loaded gun inside the house as well.

He was probably waiting for an 'excuse' to shoot someone, and this innocent motorist unwittingly gave it to him.
