I am a bit confused. Is stamp duty payable when you buy and sell a house or only when you buy. Thank you

Stamp duty is paid by the buyer

Thank you both. We are down sizing and could just creep into the lower level when we sell but doubt we will he liable when we but 🤞🤞

Stamp is for the buyer. But you don't get off the hook as seller. IIRC these days there are reports that are zero use to you that you are obliged to pay for to please the evil government. I don't recall details but think thermal insulation levels may be one aspect. Certainly put me off putting a property on the market.

Thank you OLd Geezer - Yes we have paid for the energy performance certificate (EPC) which was just short of £100 but that is all - so far. I will double check with the estate agent
