then again the quinine might help keep cramps away.

Where does the 'low calorie' come in?

^no sugar...artificial sweeteners, instead (and maybe preservative...sodium benzoate, perhaps)

Dos tonic water have sugar or sweeteners? If so, then I'd avoid it.

Er indoors drink the tonic water because of the  quinine it contains , having suffered from cramps .

I have also been drinking it as well

It's recommended that you should drink x amount of water daily .

I need to know therefore if drinking the tonic water gives you the same benefit as drinking the same amount of ordinary water

No, it will have artificial flavourings and sweeteners

For the avoidance of doubt it does NOT keep me off the sauce.

This is Britvic

Carbonated Water, Acid (Citric Acid), Flavourings (including Quinine), Sweeteners (Aspartame, Saccharin), Preservative (Potassium Sorbate)

If you don't feel thirsty, your urine is clear and doesn't have an unpleasant smell you are getting enough fluid from your food and drink.
