I'm posting in CB because
(a) it gets more views than 'Music' does ; and
(b) some people claim that the Eurovision Song Contest has very little to do with music anyway!

Here's this year's UK entry.  How do you rate it's chances?  (My own guess is 'bottom third of the table' but, as I definitely know next to nowt about music, that won't mean a lot anyway!):

Agree with you Chris, bottom of the table, relegation zone.

I freely admit, Maydup, that I know very little about muic but I've still got a feeling that we're both going to be proved right in May!

anything better than nul point is good

^^^ At least you're not a groupie, Maydup 😊

I was gonna say we'll finish bottom, but if we can't end up higher than the Irish entry, maybe it's time we packed the whole thing in.

Question Author

^^^ A valid point, in my opinion, Ken!

Having said that, Chris, have they gone through the qualifying rounds, yet? Because if they haven't, i very much doubt the Irish entry will get through to the final. Which means we coukd well finish bottom.

Just another skinny guy going back to his day job very soon.

^^^ Another good point, Ken!

The semi-finals are on the 7th and 9th of May but the UK (along with France, Spain, Germany and Italy) doesn't have to take part in them.

So the Irish entry might well have been eliminated before the final on 11th May.

I think the British entry ticks the necessary boxes -

It's really catchy with a good chorus.

The singer is suitably androgynous.

It fits in with most British and European pop styles.

The Irish entry however, is another matter.

The singer, advising that as non-binary, she (they?) represents a 'massive proportion of our country' - a cursory check advises that the 'massive proportion' is under three per cent.

I thought the song was really catchy, until I realised after about five seconds, that it was background music from Depeche Mode, who do know a thing or two about writing hit songs.

When the actual song and performance came on, it looked and sounded like something rejected from the first draft of the Rocky Horror Show for being too OTT, too screechy, and too generally horrible to be inflicted on paying audiences.

But the way things are these days, it could easily win!!!

Our lad starred in It's A Sin and is an LGBT activist. He was also the lead vocalist in a band, Years and Years, who, although i've never heard of them, had two number one hit albums in the uk. Who knew?

And he'd have stood a much better chance with something like this one;
