Golden Honey Locust

I bought this lovely tree two years ago in late October. The first year the leaves turned a wonderful yellow/gold and I was delighted with my purchase.

The following spring/summer year everything seemed to being going ok. There was adequate growth and the tree was receiving semi-regular waterings. Come fall, leaves turned brown and no fall foliage to enjoy.

Next season (this past summer), spring display was amazing and growth over the season was very strong. As a result of this wonderful performance, I expected a spectacular fall display. Alas, brown leaves with a mere hint of a faint yellow.

Are there any suggestions or ideas on what could be done that would encourage the fall yellow color that's so spectacular??

Hi jackhenri, To give it its latin name for cross refferance- Robinia psudoacacia 'Frisia' , I think this is one tree you have to enjoy in the spring and summer months, rather than the autumnal tints you gat from some other trees in the fall.
As far as I know their is nothing you can do the improve the colors,as its all down to mother nature and the passing of the seasons. All the Best. Tbird+

Hi again, I've just realised, the tree in Question is probably Gleditsia triacanthos, this is a very similar tree and sometimes confused (well me for one) Sorry.
In any case I think the same applies re leaf color.
