Spot On Flea treatments for cats.

Does anybody know whether there is a minimum temperature for storing Spot On flea treatment (Like Frontline or Stronghold). It says on the packet not to store in temperatures of over 30c but is it okay to store in the fridge I wonder?

Why would you need to? Provided it is in a cupboard or other place not in direct heat or sunlight, then it should be ok for the shelf life of the product.

cheers iankeela, yes I suppose thats the obvious thing to do but I was really asking the question because Ive been storing it in the fridge for some time (mainly because it gets very hot in the house with the heating on) and after using one tube on a neighbours cat who said that it didnt work (the neighbour said, not the cat, in fact the cat said nothing) I began to wonder whether I'd ruined the lot from storing it in too low of a temperature.

It does say store in a DRY place and I would not really call a fridge a dry place, although if the packaging is intact the plastic pipettes should have kept it ok.

Yep, you're dead right it certainly does say a DRY place which I also read on the packet along with the maximum temperature for storage. I wasnt asking if it could be kept in a wet place nor was I asking whether I should keep it in a cudboard. Obviously Im aware that the fridge is a cold damp place which is why it is also well wrapped besides its original packaging. I'll try again shall I. If one was living in a very warm house (with cudboards that arent air-conditioned) and a garden shed that is along with most garden sheds in the area, often broken into and the only place that you could think of where it would be safe and not warm was the fridge.............. then .... is there a minimum temperature where the ingredients will be ruined if kept there? Phew........ and really, its okay if no-one knows the answer. I daresay the company that makes them will get back to me eventually. Cheers!

lizzy, it would have to be a very VERY warm house to be over 30C....(86F) wouldn't it?!

I keep my dog Frontline flea drops in a high kitchen cupboard, away from small visitors - not near the cooker.
Don't worry, I'm sure in one of your cupboards will be fine.

Thanks for your answers. I realised a little while back when I actually started thinking about just how warm 30c is and how I was being abit over the top with regards to putting it in the fridge. Its only because I bought rather alot all at once (I take in stray cats get them wormed,deflea'd and nuetered/spayed and re-homed) so buying it in bulk made a big difference financially . Obviously Ive taken it all out of the fridge now but have I ruined it do you think?

At last I got an answer from Pfizer (who manufacture Stronghold Flea treatments) and much to my relief they said that though it was unnecessary to keep it in the fridge it wouldnt have done it any harm whatsoever. Anyway, Ive now taken it out of the fridge and have buried it 2 feet deep at the end of the garden !!!

.....don't forget to mark it....you won't want to be digging up the whole garden in January!
