. . . the next exit that we want or is it the one after that?  Or maybe it was the one that we've just come past?

My husbands granddad dud something similar a few years ago while driving from berks to Kent. He got 'stuck' going round the m25 probably more than once. The police rescued him too but had to take him to hospital as he'd gone I to urinary retention!

A satnav could have helped this unfortunate couple.

I once decided to drive through central London in order to get from Kent to Essex, due to there being major problems on the M25 at that time.

Such a journey should, of course, involve crossing the River Thames just once.  I crossed it five times!

wow, that's even more than the Jubilee Line.

I remember circling Trieste several times looking for the way southeast  before realising that the Rijeka I was seeking was still called Fiume in Italy. They both just mean "river", I believe.

I drove in to Edinburgh but had hell of a game finding my way out.

It was very like those little ballbearing maze puzzles, lots of dead ends and circles

at least they were going the right way. Sometimes I just can't understand how things happen. Perhaps there was some bad signposting or something.
