Hi! I've been teaching myself to play harmonica for about a year now, and i'm looking to move on to a new harp. I started on a 'C' key Hohner Pro Harp MS, as I was advised that this was a good harp to learn on, but I'm now looking for something with a more classic blues-ier sound. Can anyone out there advise me on which key to go for, or recommend a particular harp? Many thanks!
The C harp is a diatonic harp which will work best for a particular key (in your case G). If you buy another diatonic harp you will play all the same riffs you have learnt but they will be in a different key, they will not necessarily be "bluesier" unless you think playing in A is more bluesier than playing in G. If you learn the chromatic harp then you can play in any key. Perhaps your C harp is just fine but you need to learn to play blusier. Have you looked at the Homespun site, they have lots of tuition DVDs from some great players (such as Howard Levy) see http://www.homespuntapes.com/prodpg/prodpg.asp ?prodID=552&prodType=
