No. It’s a ring with just one stone.
Solitaire is how a diamond is cut
Sorry, yes it is usually a diamond. Just one.
Calmck, it’s not the cut. It’s a ring with just one diamond.
According to the dictionary (Chambers), a solitaire is 'a gemstone, especially a diamond, set by itself'. I suppose that is usually in a ring, but not necessarily - I know little about jewellery!
Solitaire - a bit like solitary. i.e. a stone on its own.
I have a solitaire and it had better be a diamond or else somebody's in trouble!
It's the only game in town.
Lol Tills.
I can't really distinguish solitaire from diamond, but I think they are the same thing. Except solitaire ring has only one piece mounted. My friend receive a 1-carat diamond ring last month, she said that's a solitaire ring.
Solitaire was by the Carpenters, and Diamond sang Love on the Rocks.
Solitire, as its name suggests, is a single diamond, that is, there is only one diamond on a diamond ring. Often solitaire will be much larger than ordinary diamonds. It can only be called solitaire diamond if it weighs more than 30 points. It is most often purchased for proposals, because it symbolizes you are my one and only, the most popular engagement ring with round brilliant diamonds

yes, solitaire is one of the setting. I bought a solitaire diamond ring. Solitaire means timeless. The style won't go tacky. I don't think there're so many different styles of diamond rings. and for girls, I think what matters is not metal, or brands, what matters is commitment.
Maybe Answerbank should have a new jewellery category .... all these ring threads are attracting alot of new member's to Answerbank.
It doesn't need to be in a ring to be a solitaire.
