Driving us all mad with this.

Holiday in Rye, went in the car to a visitor attraction on the south coast looking over the  stacks stretching out to sea.

All I remember is that it was some sort of look out or fort/defence. There was a telegraph room and a cafe serving A WWII menu (the parsnip soup was excellent) and playing the songs and music from that time.  The staff were in period costume.

Where were we?

How long were you in the car   ?    Calshot spit castle sounds a possibility but long drive from Rye.Needles fortress also possible, but would need car ferry trip.

Rye also used to have Medieval Week with dressing up. The top of the Catholic Church has a look out under the spire. Tea shops all around

That should be Birling Gap at Pett just after Winchlesea

? Bodiam Castle

No to all. It's driving me potty. There are no white cliffs at Rye, we purposely drove to this well established historic site.  It was set in/on the cliff face looking over and out to sea.  We paid to go in.  We are our lunch in the cafe, sat at the window, high in the cliff looking out to sea.

Not a coffee shop. The site was used during the war, maybe as a lookout.

The remains of Hastings Castle. Top of a cliff with a cafe and the funicular railway?

How long ago was it?

? Alfriston house.

Barry/ I was thinking NoseyNose would probably have known this as he lived in East Sussex - he hasn't been posting for some time.

Pevensey Castle English Heritage site used as emergency stronghold in WW11

Is the location history on your 'phone turnt on?

Apologies to one and all, I do appreciate you all taking the time to help out.

Canary was right - it was on the Isle of Wight, the Needles Batteries.  I had confused two holidays.

My memory is quite shocking lately, I get a glimmer of a memory and try to grasp it.

Thanks again

No worries brought back some nice memories

Not as bad as my memory Barry as jno has kindly pointed out.  I have been to the IoW many times and should have known the answer.

00:02 funny when you mentioned "stacks" I thought that it was either the Needles or Harry rocks but I didn't think you'd confuse the IOW with Rye! and Purbeck is even futher away. Though there is a Ryde but that's nowhere near the needles.

There are advantages to aging but I can't remember what they are.  Still better than the alternative though 😳
