....after UCLA Gaza protest camp cleared.

//Police have detained more than 2,000 people nationwide in the past fortnight at college rallies and protest camps.//

Why do these people - like the pro-Palestine protesters elsewhere - think that bringing chaos to their own society will produce a solution?   If order does not prevail the result is mayhem - and that is self-destructive.

It isn't the people "sitting in a tent" who are the problem. I don't wish to denigrate them mind you, but in what universe in any case would just sitting in a tent help? Honestly, if I was a protester I'd be doing more than that, and many have. But they shouldn't then complain when they are moved on.

Peter Pedant, //this was an example ( two actually) of people demonstrating in one country about another. It is at these times I can see why I am considered a freak//

You will find it helpful to keep track of the posts you're commenting on.

@12.30.Indeed Ichkeria.Where were these protesterswhen Putin invaded the Ukraine, where were these protesters on or after the 7th October last year?By their silence they were effectively condoning both Putins terrorism and the Hamas terrorism.

@12.36.Perhaps if you didnt spout so much undecipherable gobbledy-gook,Peter,you wouldnt be considered a freak. It isnt rocket-science.Speak sensibly for a change.

these are peaceful protestors who have been attacked by the police and university authorities have been shamefully complicit. it isn't them that is bringing chaos, it is boot-licking by the democrats.

That is hopelessly naive: these encampments were obstructive to students, and were being used to intimidate some. They also were attracting counter protests. They had their say, as was their right, but enough was enough. There is also evidence they were being at the very least influcned by people who had nothing to do with the universities.

//Sitting in a tent on the campus of your university is hardly bringing mayhem to anyone.//

But that isnt the whole truth though is it?

They 'violently' took over a building and have also been intimidating other students (America Jews that cant do a thing about it either).

But of course the whole picture doesnt suit you usual agenda does it.

The ones that really get me are "Gays for Palestine".

Just how long would they last if that lot were ruling?

oh please. some people call any kind of public support for palestine "intimidating"...

"The tensions at UCLA's main Westwood campus erupted on Tuesday night when a masked pro-Israeli group breached the tent camp on Dickson Plaza and attacked campers with bats, tear gas and other items."

very interesting that you describe this as attracting counter protestors... i would say that this is a far more serious incident than what the pro-palestine crowd was doing. but apparently the police aren't bothered because if you support israel you're always treated as being in the right.

there will come a time when everybody will say they were against this.

the students are also quite right to draw a parallel with the vietnam war. at that time anyone who opposed it was derided as a "pinko" or a "commie" or some other stupid and illiterate insult. the US police frequently used violence on them.

but they were right. and we all now know that they were right.

it's going to be a similar situation with this. Israel is entirely dependent on support from the US government and could commit the hideous atrocities it is currently committing without the complicity of the white house. they are quite right to demand that their government and their universities cease their complicity in the intentional mass murder of civilians.

Quite, ymb - just one reason I question their famlliarity with the cause they are supporting...

Loving the Biden crackdown on pro-palestinian truants and vandals.

The speech by Biden, was clear and articulate for a change. I may go as far as to say it was excellent. A pity that Sunak and co don't follow his example.

a very nice summary of where the debate is at regarding the campus protests:

https://jewishcurrents.org/campus-in-crisis

I do not believe the Suffragettes were a necessary protest group in order to get votes for women. It was an idea whose time had come. If the Suffragettes hadn't existed then the Suffragists are likely to have persuaded governments anyway, without the antisocial activities.

Vietnam marches were US citizens not wanting their young folk getting killed in a foreign  land when they felt it wasn't the US's quarrel. Anti apartheid I'll give you, but even there no one in other countries were effectively targeting a section of their own nation.

It is a sign of the times. The self righteous protesters have no respect for others and institutions and think they are right-right-right. It is  embarrassing and sad.
