If it's an old joke, what is the joke about? Why the milk? Is it one of those surreal jokes, like "Q.What's the difference between a duck? A.One of its legs is both the same" ?

I always understood that it came from John Wayne doing an advertising campaign for milk, but I can't find anything to back this up (he admits sheepishly).

I seem to remember an comedian/impressionist saying this on T.V in the late 70's or early 80's, although I can't recall exactly who. Possibly Les Dennis, or David Copperfield on three of a kind.

I think it was Freddie Starr who did the impression in the 70's

John Wayne was supposed to have said it in a film. He didn't, it was a comedian doing an impersonation of Wayne in a comedy sketch.
